Many Colors Powwow Banner Image

The artwork is done but the final design is not quite ready. We will be pre-selling as many as we can to raise funds for the powwow and to make sure we can purchase some to sell at the powwow. They will be $25.00 each, probably light grey, a high quality cotton (like Next Level) and short sleeved. There is artwork front and back, and at the moment we are struggling with how to make the head staff fit on the back of the shirt without compromising the artwork. We're going to use PayPal for the pre-sales. You can pick your prepaid shirts up at the powwow or have them mailed to you (add $6.00 for shipping regardless of how many shirts). The PayPal address is paypal.me/RedbirdsVision

The Children of Many Colors Intertribal Powwow is Redbird's signature event. Powwows are cultural celebrations. In urban areas, people from many tribes come together, including native people from Alaska, Hawaii, the First Nations People of Canada, and Central and South America. The powwow mingles ceremony and social gathering, meeting place and market place. Most importantly, powwows offer young people an opportunity to learn not only songs and dances but cultural values. Native languages are spoken. Elders share their wisdom with younger generations. Respect, honoring our elders and generosity are among the values we learn through these gatherings.

The Children of Many Colors Powwow is held the third weekend in July at Moorpark College in Ventura County, California. Our goal is two-fold; to provide a comfortable and pleasant environment for native people to come together, and to provide a friendly atmosphere for visitors. There is singing, dancing, honoring ceremonies, arts, crafts and food booths, other non profit associations, tipis, story tellers, flint knapping, traditional craft demonstrations, and many opportunities throughout the weekend for people to experience our circle. The 2018 Children of Many Colors Powwow will take place July Friday 20th through Sunday 22nd, 2018 at Moorpark College.

On Friday evening we host an Open Flute Circle. All flute players are welcome, regardless of tribal affiliation or the lack of it. On Saturday the first of three Gourd Dance sessions begins at 11 AM, followed by Grand Entry when all the dancers enter the arena together and the powwow begins. Dancing continues until 10 PM Saturday evening and resumes on Sunday morning with a Veteran's Honoring at 11 AM during the final Gourd Dance session.

This is an intertribal powwow with no contest dancing

Everyone is welcome to attend the powwow. This is an outdoor, family-friendly event. A $2.00 per vehicle donation is suggested. Shade canopies and chairs are welcome. ADA facilities are provided. Service animals are welcome; please be sure to provide shade for pets, children, elders; there are no trees on the athletic field where the powwow is held.
